The 54,000 square foot facility was the result of a partnership that was formed Florida Hospital and the Sanford-Burnham Institute.  The two teamed up with MEI Research, Ltd. to create a laboratory that is truly state of the art.  The building houses four calorimetric chambers.  These chambers are highly sensitive systems that can measure a person’s energy expenditure and type of food a person is burning.  Two of the calorimeters were the first of their designed for precisely measuring energy expenditure when a person is at rest or during exercise.  In total 10 different plumbing systems were installed utilizing 10,000 man hours and zero accidents.
