How Water Softeners Work

Monday, July 3rd, 2017

question-mark-badgeWhen you call on our water treatment professionals for water testing services, one of the issues we’ll look for in your home’s water is the presence of “hardness.” Hard water is water that has a high amount of magnesium and calcium suspended in it. This isn’t harmful to drink, but it’s extremely damaging to residential plumbing. The magnesium and calcium leave limescale deposits along pipes and fixtures, leading to clogging and leaking, and also causes major damage to appliances like water heaters. Hard water also makes it more difficult to work up soap lather and it leaves filmy deposits on household surfaces, skin, and hair.

Hard water is unfortunately common in household plumbing. Magnesium and calcium can enter freshwater pipes through ground water seepage. It’s estimated that 85% of homes in the U.S. have hard water. Unfortunately, Florida is one of the states where hard water is at its worst, with more than 15 grains of hard water minerals per gallon.

Thankfully, eliminating hard water is easy for professionals. All we have to do is install a whole-house water softener, one of the various water treatment systems we install in Orlando, FL and the surrounding areas.

Is a Reverse Osmosis Filter Worth It?

Monday, December 5th, 2016

We offer a number of different options for homeowners who want to have their water purified and filtered before it enters their home. Among these options is the reverse osmosis filtration system, which is an extremely powerful type of filter. Unlike most filters that passively remove particles as water flows through them, an RO filter forces the water through its filter, which allows for it to use a more powerful filtration medium. The semi-permeable membrane filter can remove many kinds of heavy metals, pesticides, high levels of sodium, and other specific chemical contaminants that can get through other types of fitlers.

However, RO filters are more expensive than standard filters. Is going with a reverse osmosis system worth it?

It Depends on Your Home

It’s true that reverse osmosis is an advanced form of water purification technology. How advanced? It’s used in military applications and even to deal with nuclear contaminants. Those are impressive credentials! But your home isn’t a military base, nor does it run from an in-home nuclear power plant. (Well, at least we hope not.) Do you really need the immense power of RO working in your house?

The answer is, “Yes… if there is a high concentration of pollutants in the water that other filters won’t do well against.” These pollutants include dissolved salts (sometimes created by a water softener), mercury, lead, calcium, iron, and asbestos. There are some pollutants that RO won’t affect, however, such as certain volatile organic compounds, including chlorine and radon, as well as specific types of pesticides.

Water Testing Is the Answer

The way to find out if a reverse osmosis system is worth installing is to contact us to perform water testing in your house. Our experts will find out exactly what is dissolved in your water, and then use this knowledge to provide you with the best filters and purifiers to give your household clean, safe water.

Do You Have Hard Water in Your Home? 5 Signs to Watch For

Monday, June 6th, 2016

One of the most frequent problems with water quality in homes is hard water. This is water that has a higher suspension of minerals in it than normal, most of which seep into freshwater pipes through the ground water. Hard water minerals include magnesium, gypsum, and calcium. Thankfully, hard water is rarely harmful for people to drink. But it poses a different threat to your household: the build-up of scale inside pipes and appliances. Too much build-up in the pipes will lead to a spike in water pressure, and the scale inside appliances such as the water heater can lead to permanent damage.

What Hard Water Is and What to Do about It

Monday, July 27th, 2015

It’s a strange phrase. How can a liquid be hard? The “hardness” of water refers to the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium therein. Groundwater picks up such minerals on its way into your plumbing system. The more dissolved minerals therein, the “harder” the water. But is this an issue in your household? Should you be concerned for your health or the safety of your plumbing system?
