Plumbing Question: Can Drain Cleaning Reduce Repairs?

Monday, November 26th, 2012

You probably don’t spend many sleepless nights thinking about the plumbing system in your Orlando home. But if your plumbing system breaks down, then it’s probably dominating your every thought. At Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI), we want our customers to rest easy about their plumbing system. To that end, we put together a few reasons why drain cleaning might be a good idea for your home in Orlando.

Drain Cleaning Techniques

There are a number of ways that you can clean out a drain. One of the best ways to do it is with high pressure water jetting.

  • High pressure water jetting – This kind of process is highly effective at clearing any kinds of blockages or clogs in your pipes. The pressure washer is basically a long hose that sprays water up and down your drains. The water pressure used during water jetting is between 3,000 and 5,000 PSI.

Benefits of Drain Cleaning

We all try to have our cars regularly maintained. We do it to extend the life of our car and reduce repairs. The same goes for your home.

  • Reduced repairs – With regular drain cleaning, you can potentially reduce costly repairs to your plumbing that result from clogs. This is a great way for many homeowners in Orlando to cut back on home repair costs.
  • Greater comfort – Standing in the shower waiting for the water to drain isn’t a nice thing. When you have your drains regularly cleaned, you know that they are going to drain fast without the risk of clogs.

Check Your Work

At Modern Plumbing Industries, we like to be sure about the work we do. That’s why we offer video camera drain inspections as well. With this procedure, we insert a flexible cord with a camera on the end of it into the plumbing system. This way we can get up close and personal with every inch of the drain. We look for cracks or leaks in your pipes and make sure that everything is working well.

Common Plumbing Repairs in Orlando

Monday, November 19th, 2012

When the plumbing system in your Orlando home breaks down, it can be frustrating and inconvenient. But sometimes it can be hard to know when you need a professional plumber. At Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI), our plumbers have responded to countless calls from customers in Orlando. We thought it would be helpful if we presented some of the common repairs that need professional attention.

Clogged Drains

Most people in Orlando probably don’t pay much attention to their drains until they’re clogged. By the time that happens, it’s probably best to call for a professional plumber. Not only can a plumber unclog your drain faster, they can do it right without damaging other parts of your plumbing. Additionally, they can also spot other potential repairs that may need to be done to your plumbing as well.

Low Hot Water Pressure

If you’re not getting enough water pressure when you turn on your hot water faucet, you should most likely call a plumber. The cause of this problem could be in your pipes, but it could also be your hot water heater. In either case, a plumber will be able to accurately diagnose the problem and fix it quickly.

Sewer and Water Main

If your sewer or water main is leaking, this is definitely an extensive repair job that will need to be performed by a plumber. It will involve digging up parts of your yard, running new pipe and connecting it to the main in the street.

Leaking Piping

If you have a pipe leak, either from frozen pipes or from corrosion or a natural disaster, its best to have the problem addressed right away. Leaking pipes can cause a lot of extensive damage to your home and cost you a pretty penny.  A certified plumber should always be used to repair this type of problem.

Why You Should Call a Professional Plumber

Monday, November 12th, 2012

Your home plumbing system is one of the most important components of your home. It delivers hot water for bathing, cleaning and washing clothes. It pipes in natural gas to keep your home warm and comfortable. It also removes waste water from your home in a clean, hygienic way. When you depend on something as much and as frequently as you do your home plumbing system it is important that only a trained professional handles the installation, maintenance and repair of that system. If you are experiencing any problems with your plumbing system in Winter Springs be sure to call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI) right away. Our expert Winter Springs plumbers have the training and experience to make sure that your plumbing system is operating efficiently and effectively.

It is important to call a professional plumber as soon as you notice any problems or inconsistencies with your plumbing system’s performance. Because so much of your plumbing system is hidden in the ground or between your walls problems are not always immediately obvious. In the event of a problem such as a slab leak you may not notice the issue at all until it has been developing and worsening for a while. This means that by the time you discover the problem it may have already had the opportunity to do some serious damage to your home.

It is also important to call a professional plumber because they have the tools, equipment and experience necessary to pinpoint the source of a problem such as a slab leak or any other damaged pipes or components. When you are dealing with water the spot that you notice damages in may not be the origin of the problem. It may just be where water has pooled, and can divert your form the actual source.

Even minor plumbing problems are best handled by professional plumbers. Take a frequently clogged pipe, for instance. You can buy harsh chemical cleaners to clear out the clog, but if they were really working efficiently then the clog would not keep redeveloping. These cleaners can corrode your pipes and leave part of the clog behind, meaning it is only a matter of time before the flow of water is blocked again. Professional plumbers are trained to use tools such as video camera pipe inspection equipment and water jetting hoses to ensure that your pipes and drains are totally free from blockages.

If you have any further questions about the importance of hiring a professional plumber to provide plumbing service in your Winter Springs home, call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI) today.

Plumber’s Guide: Basic Toilet Components

Monday, November 5th, 2012

We’ve all been there: the toilet won’t flush and you very officially remove the cover to the tank, only to realize that you have no idea what you are looking at. So you jiggle everything a few times, try the handle again with no luck and decide to call your Orlando plumber. It is necessary that a professional plumber, such as those at Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI), handles the repairs in the event of a problem with your plumbing. However, having some basic knowledge about what all those parts inside your toilet tank are can help you make the best decision about when it is necessary to call for professional help and when a component may just be misaligned. Take this information into consideration and have a peek inside the tank of the toilet in your Orlando home.

When you push the handle to flush your toilet a lever connected to that handle rises inside the tank. This in turn pulls a chain or wire that raises the stopper, tank ball or rubber flap at the bottom of your toilet. This allows the water in the tank to drain out and fill the bowl.

As the water level in the tank lowers the big rubber float ball falls with it. This pulls down on the component called the float arm, raising a valve plunger and allowing the tank to refill. As the water rises so too does the float ball, until it gets back to its original position and the flush valve closes.

Simply observing the flushing process with the inner components of the tank exposed will give you a pretty good idea of how these components interact with one another as well as what the problem they are experiencing is. You’ll be able to see, for instance, if the chain has slipped or if the tank ball is not falling into the pipe correctly. If everything is not sealed up you wind up with a running toilet. Perhaps there is something wrong with the ballcock assembly, which is located up at the top by the handle and contains the valve plunger.

If you do not see any reason why these pieces should not be allowing for the proper function of your toilet, call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI) right away. There may be a broken seal somewhere or a problem with your water or drain pipes. Whatever the problem is, our professional Orlando plumbers have the training and experience necessary to fix it. Call today to schedule plumbing service with a qualified professional.
