$100 off a Hybrid Water Heater!

Friday, April 5th, 2013

We rely on our water heaters on a daily basis to provide hot water for bathing, cleaning and washing. But with energy costs on the rise, many homeowners are looking for ways to increase their energy-efficiency without sacrificing the comfort they enjoy in their home. The hybrid water heater is a great way to do just that. Also known as a heat pump water heater, the hybrid water heater uses heat-transfer technology supplemented with electric direct-heat coils to make sure your hot water works well throughout the year. Remember, it’s important to receive a professional installation in order to maximize the potential benefits of a hybrid system.
100 off a hybrid water heater in orlando
Let’s take a look at what makes a hybrid water heater distinctive. The typical water heater is a tanked storage system that uses either gas or electricity to heat up water and store it for use. The hybrid water heater also stores hot water for use, but instead of solely relying on a direct-heat source, it uses a heat-transfer technology to move heat, rather than converting it from an energy source. While in heat-pump mode, it still operates on electricity, but it uses energy up to 3 times more efficiently.

One of the greatest benefits to the hybrid water heater is that unlike a heat pump, it has a backup direct-heat mechanism that ensures that you never go without hot water. When the system determines that it is too cold outside or in the air surrounding the water heater to heat the water efficiently using the heat pump, it switches to the direct heating element. This function is fully programmable so that you can determine the operation of the hybridity to balance your energy efficiency and comfort.

Hybrid water heaters make a great addition to any home. And there’s never been a better time to upgrade or replace your ailing home water heater.  We are currently offering $100 off a hybrid water heater, check out the coupon here! Water Heater Question: What Is The Water Heater Anode Rod?

Monday, March 4th, 2013

We rely on our water heaters every day for hot showers and baths, and clean clothes and dishes. One of the most overlooked components of your water heater is a piece of equipment known as the anode rod, commonly referred to as the sacrificial anode. The anode rod may be the most single important factor affecting the lifespan of your water heater.

What Is An Anode Rod?

Anode rods are typically about 39” in length and ¾” in diameter. They are often made out of a steel core wire and wrapped in magnesium, aluminum or zinc. Often screwed to the top of your water heater, the anode rod “sacrifices” itself chemically to the water inside. All metallic elements are reactive on some scale. Because the metal used on the rod’s outside is less “noble” than the steel on the inside of your water heater, the electrolytic reaction with the water in your tank will eat away at the rod instead of damaging the tank itself.  It’s an age-old method to make sure your tank water heater doesn’t begin to rust.

Why Get Regular Water Heater Repair and Maintenance in Orlando, FL

The lifespan of your anode rod depends on the composition of the water, the quantity of water running through your water heater on a daily basis, water temperature as well as the quality of the tank itself. The inspection and replacement of your anode rod is an essential part of any homeowner’s maintenance. If you don’t catch a depleted anode rod before it’s too late, then the inside of your water heater’s tank may start to rust. Moreover, it can also break off and bounce around inside your tank, which can cause damage to the tank’s liner.

Knowing how your anode rod affects your hot water supply may help you to avoid water heater repair in Orlando, FL. For water heater repair, maintenance and installation services, call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI) today.

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Whether you are building a new home and need a water heater installation or you are finally ready to upgrade your old water heater, call Modern Plumbing Industries (MPI). Our team of water heater experts can ensure that you find the best water heater for your home and personal hot water usage habits.

As concerns about environmental impact – as well as the cost of energy – increases, many homeowners are looking for ways to make their home more efficient and environmentally friendly. If this is a priority that you have, ask MPI about the installation of a GE hybrid water heater in your Orlando home. These innovative devices make using hot water in your home more efficient than ever before.

The GeoSpring hybrid water heater from GE is an industry leader in efficiency. Boasting the best energy efficiency levels of any 50 gallon water heater on the market, the GeoSpring can help you cut down on energy use in your home while still heating water effectively. The key to the efficiency with which GE hybrid water heaters work lies in their use of energy.

Hybrid water heaters use a built-in heat pump to draw in existing heat from the surrounding environment. This allows them to use much less direct heating fuel, such as natural gas. If the system is overwhelmed it can make use of direct heating sources such as natural gas to increase its output. In eHeat mode, the water heater will use the heat pump exclusively.

You are also able to lower the temperature that your water heater works to attain, further boosting energy efficiency. Make use of settings such as vacation mode to trim costs when you are away. The amount of control that a GE hybrid water heater, paired with its highly efficient operation, makes reducing energy consumption in Orlando simple.

For more information about GE hybrid water heaters in Orlando, call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI). We are always happy to help our loyal customers save money in their homes. Let us handle your GE hybrid water heater installation, maintenance and repair services so that you can enjoy the full benefit of your device. Call today for more information.

3 Benefits to Installing a New Water Heater

Monday, January 21st, 2013

If your water heater has stopped working, your immediate reaction is probably one of dismay. However, there are several benefits to replacing your water heater that can help turn your mood around. At Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI), we’ve been offering complete water heater installation and water heater replacement in Orlando for years.  Here are some of the benefits of replacing your hot water heater.

Efficiency

Almost without exception, new hot water heaters offer customers greater heating efficiency. Water heaters are generally given an Energy Factor rating that measures their efficiency. This rating describes how much actual hot water is produced per unit of fuel consumed. The higher the energy factor, the more efficient the water heater is. New gas-fired water heaters typically have an energy factor rating of .5 to .7. By investing in a new water heater, you’ll be able to take advantage of that efficiency.

Hot Water Recovery Rate

Two other important metrics for water heaters is the First Hour Rating which measures the availability of water during the period of highest demand. The Recovery Rating is also important because it describes the water heater’s ability to replenish hot water after it has been depleted. If you have an old hot water, you may have been taking cold showers if you got in after the rest of your family. With a new hot water, it will likely have a better recovery rating which will give you access to more hot water at the times when you need it most.

Space Savings

If you’ve decided to upgrade to a tankless hot water heater, then you will probably have more available space in your storage area. Tankless water heaters are small, rectangular units that can be mounted on a wall. If that’s the case, then you likely have a much larger area for storing other items besides your water heater.

If you need water heater installation or water heater replacement in Orlando, call Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI). We have experience working with many different types and brands of water heaters. We would love to help you pick out a unit that matches your home’s needs and your budget. Call us today.

Meanwhile, here are some of the best bathroom upgrades you can choose for your home.

Low Flow Showerheads and Faucets

Did you know that a standard showerhead uses up to 5.5 gallons per minute (GPM)? The amount of water you can save by installing a low-flow showerhead can reduce your water bills up to 40%. Low-flow showers will have a 2.5 GPM rate, or lower. Faucets will have different rates, and your Winter Springs plumber can help you decide which faucet or showerheads will work best in your home.

Low Flow Toilets

Your older toilet could be using as much as 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush, which is a big part of your home’s daily water use. Low-flow toilets use less than 1.6 gallons of water and work just as effectively. If you are remodeling your bathroom or just looking to make your home more green, installing a low-flow toilet is an easy way to save water.

Other Improvements

Even if you have a small drip in your bathroom, it can add up over time. Call a plumber to fix any leaks or drips. There could be other issues you aren’t aware of. Plumbing Question: What is Drain Vent Repair?

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Drain vents are an essential part of all plumbing systems.  They equalize the air pressure in a drain line, allowing air to flow through the pipe as well as water.  Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. has a team of professional plumbers in Winter Springs who handle drain vent repairs and can help you understand them a little bit better.

Plumbing drain vents perform some key functions.  They allow air to escape from waste water pipes as the waste water pushes it along.  They permit air into the waste pipes so that waste water is not hindered by low air pressure.  They prevent the siphon affect from occurring when water fixtures are used.  They safely dispose of stinky sewer odors through a roof vent rather than the odor being trapped and entering a building.

So what causes the need for a drain vent repair?

If you begin to smell sewer gas in your building there could be a drain vent problem.  Hearing a gurgling sound during drainage means there is a bad venting pipe or clogged drain.  This happens because air cannot be properly vented through the plumbing vent and instead is being sucked in through the drainage pipes.

Plumbing vents that accidentally get blocked or closed off or leaking plumbing vents that are not properly sealed can cause problems with your plumbing system.  There can also be plumbing vent stack leaks inside the walls of a building when initial installation is not completed properly and pipes become disjointed.  Each of these problems needs professional service to be repaired properly.

The qualified plumbers at Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. are ready to help you with all your drain vent repairs in Winter Springs, no matter how they happened, and no matter what they are.  Contact Modern Plumbing Industries today!

Plumbing Question: Why Does My House Run Out of Hot Water?

Monday, August 13th, 2012

Running out of hot water is never fun, especially when you are in a hurry and need it to finish your morning preparations for the day.  As Orlando plumbing specialistsModern Plumbing Industries, Inc. we can help you understand the main reasons why the hot water runs out.

Reasons the Hot Water Runs Out

As everyone knows, hot water is created for us by our water heaters.  The type and size of water heater that is present in a building will directly relate to how quickly the hot water runs out.  If the hot water heater is too small for the standard uses within a home or a business such as a restaurant, it can mean frequently running out of hot water and having to wait for it to be heated once again.

Different household tasks use up differing amounts of hot water.  A typical five-minute shower takes up 12 gallons of hot water.  A load of laundry typically takes from 9-12 gallons of hot water on the standard warm wash and warm rinse cycle (depending on the size of the washing machine).  A load of dishes in the dishwasher can use anywhere from 8 to 10 gallons of hot water.  If you only have a 30 gallon tank water heater then doing any of these things at the same time can mean the hot water runs out quickly.

It could also be that the dip tube on the cold water inlet on the hot water heater is broken or has worn out.  The result would be not being able to use the water near the bottom of the tank, which means you are losing a good portion of your water heating capacity.

On electric water heaters the heating elements could have gone out.  Resetting them will generally solve this problem, but if it does not it means something more serious has occurred and a water heater replacement may be necessary.

Improper insulation on a water heater can mean that heat loss from the water heater tank is causing the water temperature to fluctuate too often, resulting in not enough hot water.

Sediment buildup within a water heater can decrease how well the water is heated and how well it stays hot.  Excess sediment creates a big problem, and proper water heater flushing should be done during your annual professional water heater maintenance.

Let us help you solve your hot water problems in Orlando, whether they are due to a hot water heater that is too small, broken or worn parts, improper insulation or sediment buildup.  No matter what the reasons are that the hot water runs out, Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. (MPI)  can help you get an ample supply of hot water once again.

Plumbing Question: What Can Cause a Clogged Kitchen Sink Lines?

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

Clogged kitchen sink lines are a problem many homeowners experience. It is important to understand the main causes of clogs in kitchen sink lines in order to avoid them in the future.  If you do have a kitchen sink clog it is important to work with a plumbing company in Orlando such as those at Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc.  that can easily identify the clog and fix it quickly.

Causes of a Kitchen Sink Clog

  • Food in the Drain:  When food that is left on dishes slips into the drain, it can stick to the walls of the sink drain, and cause a kitchen sink clog.  Especially susceptible are starchy foods such as cereal and bread, as well as hard to grind foods such as potato peels.  The best preventive solution to this is to dispose of excess food on dishes in the compost or trash can, or to use a strainer over the sink while cooking.  Utilizing a garbage disposal can assist with some food clogs, but they are not intended for use on every single piece of unused food and should thus be used sparingly.
  • Grease:  Grease in its liquid form does flow through drains, generally when the grease is hot or warm.  However, when grease solidifies, it turns into a goopy mess that easily sticks to the walls of a drain.  Once other substances go down the drain they are more likely to stick as well and cause a clogged kitchen sink.  Grease should never be poured down a drain in its liquid form, nor sent down the drain in its solid form.  Instead place hot grease in a tin can to cool and solidify and then dispose of it in the trash can.
  • Foreign Objects:  With a busy household comes the added worry of foreign objects being accidently sent down the kitchen sink drain.  These can be anything from dropped jewelry, to small toys, silverware, or paper towels.  Any foreign objects in the sink drain can easily cause a kitchen sink clog to occur.  Pay attention to what you keep around your kitchen sink, as this will help to lessen the occurrence of such drain clogs.

Clogged Kitchen Sink Repair

When clogged kitchen sink lines do occur, it is essential to have them fix quickly with professional Orlando plumbing technicians who have years of education and hands-on experience handling every type of drain problem which accidently happens.  Contact your Orlando plumbers at Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. today!
